Fortis payouts and fees
Fortis is an optional credit card processor on GrownBy that offers more affordable credit card processing for higher-volume farms. It runs alongside Stripe rather than replacing it.
Fortis fees
Two kinds of fees apply when you use Fortis: per-transaction fees and a monthly fee.
Per-transaction fees
Every credit card payment processed through Fortis has two fees taken out of it:
- Fortis processing fee: 2.75% + $0.20 per transaction. This is Fortis's charge for processing the card payment.
- GrownBy co-op fee: 2%. This platform fee supports the co-op. It is taken from each transaction and is non-refundable.
Both fees are deducted from your payouts — they come out of each transaction before the funds reach your bank account, so your payout is the order total minus these fees.
Monthly fee
Fortis also charges a $6 monthly fee. This fee applies every month, including months when you have no sales.
Reviewing your Fortis fees per transaction
You can see the fees paid on each transaction in the Invoices report. We recommend the Invoice Summary export (from the Invoices tab). For each invoice you'll see the total charged through Fortis, plus a separate column for the co-op fee and the Fortis credit card fee. The Fortis payout ID also appears there.

When to use Fortis
The break-even point depends on your average transaction size and annual sales volume.
Stripe is still required
All farms must maintain an active Stripe connection, because Stripe handles ACH payments and the farm credit system. When you add Fortis, GrownBy automatically processes your credit card payments through Fortis at the advertised rates, while Stripe stays connected for ACH and farm credit.
Fortis can also process SNAP/EBT payments (coming soon for GrownBy Register EBT).

Fortis payouts
A payout is a payment from a payment processor to your bank account. The timing of when Fortis funds appear in your account depends on the processor's payout schedule.
You can find payout data in the Payout Reports and in the Payouts export under Account Settings → Payouts.
