In any product on GrownBy Marketplace, there are two standard options for categories, Reporting Category and Online Category. If you have the GrownBy Register plan, you also have access to Register Categories.
Reporting Categories
Each product can only be assigned to one Reporting Category. Consider your reporting categories closely, as they can be quite helpful during tax season or with financial reporting. You might have all of your plant sale items as "seedlings" so that you can understand your earnings by plant sale. You might group all of your meat together as "meat" or keep it separate by type of meat. You might give items you buy in a different category than what you produce on farm.
Online Categories
These categories are used for sorting products in your shop to make it easier for customers to shop. You can have more than one online category. The online category will help the customers see the products clearly via the right hand menu in the shop, especially when you have many products. If you're having a plant sale, you might have categories that are "Seedlings | Herbs", "Seedlings | Tomatoes", "Seedlings | Flowers," and so on. In a shop with lots of meat, you might have "Bulk Boxes", "Beef," "Pork," "Ground Meat," "Sausage," and more. In this example, a quarter cow would be marked Bulk and Beef. Ground pork would be labeled Pork and Ground Meat.
Register Categories
Products sold via the GrownBy Register can also be assigned Register Categories. These are not visible to customers and are used by farmers to organize products for in-person sales.
Editing
You can create any categories that you'd prefer. There are some example categories set up by GrownBy. Most of these can be deleted if you don't need them — the only category that cannot be deleted is Farm Credit, because it is required for the farm credit payment method to work. You can edit your list of categories in the categories section within Products. Click on Products on the left hand menu and then you'll see Categories below.
