Printing Order Labels with GrownBy -- Thermal and Inkjet/Laser Printing

Printing Order Labels with GrownBy -- Thermal and Inkjet/Laser Printing

As of version 3.7.2, GrownBy allows for direct printing of a variety of label sizes on both thermal and deskjet/inkjet printers!

Before we show you how to print your labels on GrownBy, let’s talk about thermal printers so you can choose the right method for your farm.

What is thermal printing?

Thermal printers are a fast and reliable way to print durable, water resistant labels. They use heat instead of ink to create images and text. Thermal printers work by heating specialized paper to darken the heated areas to create the label. They generally print in black and white. The paper is a little more expensive than regular printer paper but you don’t have to worry about ink so there’s just one supply to keep track of.

Why choose a thermal printer?

Thermal printers are popular for their speed, simplicity, and reliability. Some farms prefer this type of printing because you’ll never run out of ink, the labels are available in durable, waterproof options, and they print quickly from a roll of label printer paper.

What thermal printer should I use?

There are a variety of compatible thermal printers on the market. Just be sure to choose one that handles the size labels you'd like to use. Brands like DYMO, Brother, Epson, and Rollo all make compatible thermal printers.  Need help choosing a printer or printing labels? Contact our team—we’re happy to assist!

What if I don’t want to use a thermal printer?

We also offer label printing for “sheet” labels on an inkjet/laser printer. Previously we recommended exporting your sign-in sheet into an external, on-line tool to format “sheet” labels that can be printed with an inkjet/laser printer. We now offer an easier method using only tools within GrownBy.

What label sizes and formats does GrownBy support?

GrownBy provides both thermal and sheet label options in 4”x6” (standard USPS label size), 4”x2”, and 2.4”x3”. All label exports are in PDF format.
