How to Add a Free Share for a CSA Customer
A farm may have donated or free shares, perhaps for site coordinators or community member volunteers, or you want to run a promotion for first time members who receive a free week of produce.
You can either create a coupon with a promo code, or if you prefer to do the work yourself, you can create the order for them by following the steps below.
The easiest way to offer free CSA share is to create a Discount and Promotion, and limit the code to only the customers you intend, and share the code with them. Have them sign up for the share they want where they want it and apply the Promo Code.
Create the Order for Your Customers
If you would prefer to do the work yourself, you can create the order for them, following these steps:
Add the customer. If this customer already exists on your customer page, you don’t need to add them to GrownBy. If the customer does not already have a GrownBy account, the customer will receive a welcome email and an email to reset their password.
- Create a Promotion and Discount. For a free share, you'll have a 100% off share. You might have 50% off for site hosts or something similar.
- Subscribe the customer to the intended share. To do this, go to the customer tab, choose the customer you want to subscribe, and click on "New Order."
- Make sure that they're subscribed on the right day and at the correct location, if applicable.
- Choose pay-in-full as their payment schedule and
- Apply the promo code
- At this point, the customer will receive an email thanking them for their order. The receipt does not show the promo code, but shows that a discount was applied.
- We recommend that you send an email or message to the customer letting them know that they're subscribed and that their share is free. Encourage them to log in to change their address and update their profile information.
