Configuring Payments: Stripe Connection, Payment Settings, ACH, and Offline Payments

Configuring Payments: Stripe Connection, Payment Settings, ACH, and Offline Payments

The third step to getting set up in GrownBy is to configure payments. You will not be able to proceed until you've connected with Stripe. You should complete this step on a desktop device, ideally.

Note: You may already have a Stripe account that you use with a different software or service. For GrownBy, you need to establish a new Stripe Account (through the process in the dashboard) because GrownBy actually "manages" farms' Stripe accounts which provides the software specific permissions that enable it to function.

You can find your Account Settings page at the bottom of the left hand menu. On this page you'll see options for Payments, Payouts, Taxes and Fees, Membership and Plan, Wholesale, and Team Members. Choose the Payments tab for how to link to Stripe, register to accept SNAP Online, set up ACH, permit and provide instructions for offline payments, and options for fees, tips, and minimum cart amount.

Here's a video to walk you through the steps:

Stripe Setup

GrownBy partners with Stripe for processing credit card payments. You should set up your Stripe account on desktop.

What you'll need to verify your business Stripe:
  1. EIN
  2. Bank account number (routing number and account number) for payouts
  3. Your address
  4. Your phone number
  5. Information on company owners, if applicable
  6. Perhaps other details, depending on business structure
Suggestions:
  1. Statement description (short and long): we recommend adding your farm's name

SNAP Online

Thanks to a partnership with MarketLink and USDA, farmers are able to use GrownBy to process SNAP payments online. Follow the steps in this article to accept SNAP online.

ACH Payments

GrownBy allows your farm to accept ACH (direct bank transfer payments). This payment method is great because it is secure, less expensive in fees, and easy to use. Once it's set-up, the connection remains active unless the shopper closes their bank account of deletes the payment method.

Offline Payments

GrownBy allows offline payments. This feature is useful for customers who pay by check, cash or EBT.

To enable offline payments, click the box and add a custom message for customers. This message should include details like where to send their check or how to pay with cash at market. If you do not check this box, customers will be required to enter credit card or bank information.

Minimums, Tips, and Fees

Fees

In GrownBy, there are options for farmers to share the responsibility of credit card, bank, and co-op fees with their customers. The options are:
  1. Hide cover fee option. In this option customers cannot cover their farmer's fees.
  2. Let customers choose to pay fees: By choosing this option, you customer will be asked upon check out if they want to help cover the fees. This option defaults to yes, but the customer can click "No" if they choose. If the customer chooses to pay offline, they will not be prompted to include service fees or tips.
  3. Require customers to pay all fees: This option will add credit card/bank and co-op fees to the cart at checkout.

Tips

If you enable the option to tip, customers can choose to provide a tip upon check out.

Minimum Purchase Amount

Farmers can also add a minimum purchase amount in the cart. This can be really useful for farms offering delivery or with other associated costs that may make small orders difficult. You can set the minimum amount to whatever you choose. A bar in the cart will help customers know if they've reached their cart minimum.

Note: The minimum purchase amount does not apply to carts that contain shares/subscriptions. Cart minimums do not apply to custom shares or to overages on custom shares.

3D Verification

3D secure verification is a credit card payment verification method that requires an additional step from shoppers. If you see a payment that has not yet settled in your GrownBy or Stripe account, the customer may need to complete 3D verification.
