You can issue partial refunds through GrownBy. You may want to do this because:
- There was an item in an order/invoice that was unsatisfactory or missing and you need to make it up to your customer
- You are selling meat, cheese, or another product that is listed in your shop with a preliminary price and you need to adjust the final price down (Read more about Recommendations for Meat and Cheese sales on GrownBy here).
It is important to understand that Stripe and GrownBy fees are not refunded when you refund an invoice, whether full or partial. It may be advantageous to you and/or your customer to refund to
farm credit if the customer purchases from you regularly. Farm credit never expires and when used, does not incur fees.
Note: We recommend developing a pricing and refund policy for your farm. We recommend that you communicate your policy to your customers ahead of time and post it on your website and/or in your GrownBy shop.
Meat and Cheese Sales with Partial Refunds
There are a number of ways to manage sales of meat and cheese on GrownBy. These sales present specific challenges which is why we have devoted several articles to the topic. You can read all about Meat and Cheese Sales
here. One of those options is to charge a higher price and provide a partial refund when the order is complete.
How to Issue a Partial Refund
To issue a partial refund, go to Invoices and find the invoice you need to adjust. Click Refund under the Action column. A pop-up will appear that looks like this:

You can enter any value less than or equal to the total in one or the other of the Credit Card and Farm Credit fields. You can refund partially to credit and partially to Farm Credit simultaneously. You can also add a note for future reference for you and your customer. Click Confirm Refund when you're done.
Partial Refunds vs. Cancellations
If your intention is to cancel one item from an order and provide a refund for that item, you should read this article about Refunds. You should use the orders page and select the item/s from the order that you would like to cancel. Proceeding from the orders page instead of issuing a partial refund will ensure that this canceled item is not on your harvest lists, sign in sheets, or other records.
